current PROJECT
DPI Trauma Sensitive Schools (TSS) and Comprehensive School Mental Health (CSMH) Technical Assistance
PARTICIPATING STAFF: Dr. Oriana Eversole, Jessica Arrigoni
According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction:
A Comprehensive School Mental Health System (CSMHS) includes a continuum of services and supports to promote student and staff mental health by fostering social and emotional wellbeing and positive school culture, and eliminating systemic barriers to wellbeing and success for all students (Lever 2019). In addition, schools have a great ability to prevent and mitigate the impacts of traumatic exposure on our youth. By becoming a trauma sensitive school, schools can become a protective factor for these students and increase the social and emotional and academic skills of the entire school body.
R10CC is providing technical assistance to WI DPI to increase DPI’s capacity to use evidence-based practices, monitoring, and continuous improvement processes to increase effectiveness of CSMH and TSS implementation in WI. Support includes the following: (1) help create a more extensive monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement plan for CSMH and TSS with related measures (e.g., surveys) for CSMH; and (2) research and evaluate national TSS models to determine which model(s) and tool to align to and adopt materials for implementation of Evidence Based Improvement Strategies (EBIS).
